CLD Office Transformation: From Chaos to Creativity

When I started Cathryn Lindsey Design, my workspace was anything but glamorous. It was a humble room that had doubled as my husband's makeshift COVID office and gym—a space filled with mismatched furniture and a lingering sense of impermanence. As my business grew, I realized I needed an office that not only reflected the elevated, intentional designs I create for clients but also felt like a place I truly belonged. This is the story of how I turned a simple room into a sanctuary for creativity and organization.

The Heart of the Space- A Vintage English Refractory Table

The journey began at Round Top, where I stumbled upon a 200-year-old English refractory table. It was love at first sight. The table’s storied character and substantial presence became the foundation of the room. It serves as both a workspace and a statement piece, perfectly encapsulating my affinity for blending the old with the new.

Balancing Modern Comfort and Vintage Charm

To balance the antique table, I introduced a modern Sherpa chair with clean lines—a juxtaposition that feels fresh and inviting. For storage, I opted for a sleek, modern credenza that neatly houses all the samples and materials I’ve accrued over the years. This mix of old and new is a hallmark of my design philosophy and keeps the space feeling grounded yet contemporary.

The Perfect Palette: A Cloudy Blue Backdrop

The walls are painted in a serene, cloudy blue that creates a calming atmosphere while serving as a sophisticated backdrop for the room’s eclectic elements. This color choice reflects my love for hues that evoke a sense of peace and timelessness, and it sets the stage for creativity to flourish.

Thoughtful Details and Layers

Every corner of the room tells a story. Vintage finds from Round Top—including salvaged china and curated artwork—add layers of personality. Block print linen curtains soften the space, while fresh lighting enhances both functionality and ambiance. A custom pinboard hangs proudly on one wall, brimming with sketches, swatches, and inspiration for current projects.

A Reflection of My Design Journey

This office isn’t just a place to work; it’s a testament to my journey as a designer. It’s where I dream up concepts, refine ideas, and bring visions to life for my clients. It’s also a reminder of the importance of creating spaces that feel authentic and personal—a principle I carry into every project I undertake.

Designing my home office was a deeply personal project that allowed me to explore my own style while creating a space that meets my professional needs. It’s proof that even functional spaces can be beautiful, intentional, and inspiring.

I hope this glimpse into my office inspires you to create a workspace that reflects your style and supports your goals. Whether it’s a corner of your living room or a dedicated room, your workspace should be a place where you feel empowered and creative.
